About Holter Museum of Art
The Holter Museum of Art opened in 1987 in a renovated former Montana Power & Equipment Building on East Lawrence Street in downtown Helena. The 17,000-square-foot museum has five galleries, two classrooms and an education/research center, focused on contemporary art with an emphasis on the Northwest region. It rotates roughly 20 temporary exhibits a year and runs kids' and adult art classes, including after-school programs and a figure drawing studio.
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Sunday noon to 4 p.m.; closed Mondays and for a stretch in early January, plus Nov. 26 and Dec. 25. Adults ages 18-69 who aren't members or veterans pay $10; members, veterans, seniors 70+ and anyone 17 or under get in free, and admission is free for everyone on Fridays and during exhibition openings. The museum's largest annual fundraiser is a spring Gala & Auction, held off-site at the Helena Civic Center.
