About Montana Book Company
Montana Book Company is an independent bookstore on Last Chance Gulch in downtown Helena. Judy Flanders opened it in 1978 under the Little Professor franchise and later the Montana Book Company name, sold it to Didi and Jan Peccia in 1998, and on July 1, 2018 Chelsia Rice and Charlie Crawford bought it and restored the original name. The store describes itself as LGBTQ+, woman, and veteran owned. It sells new books, cards, and gifts, and it programs author signings, readings, workshops, and a set of monthly book clubs that meet in the store after hours.
The store is at 331 N. Last Chance Gulch, Helena, MT 59601, on the north (open-to-traffic) end of Last Chance Gulch a few blocks from the walking mall. Metered street parking is on the block and the surrounding streets. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; closed Sunday.
