About Little Tykes Trick or Treat

Little Tykes Trick or Treat is Downtown Helena, Inc.'s annual Halloween event, in which participating storefronts along the Last Chance Gulch Walking Mall and the Great Northern Town Center hand out candy to kids in costume. It is organized specifically for young children and their families rather than as an evening event, running in daylight hours on Halloween itself.

The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 31 each year, rain, shine or snow, along downtown Helena's pedestrian mall. More than 50 downtown businesses typically participate, marked by signs or balloons in their windows. There is no registration or cost; families walk the mall at their own pace, and parking is available in downtown lots and along Last Chance Gulch.

Tips

• It runs rain or shine (and sometimes snow) since it is an outdoor walking-mall event in late October in Montana; dress costumes for the weather
• Parking fills up in the downtown core during the 1-4 p.m. window; side streets off Last Chance Gulch are a backup
• Participating businesses are not centrally mapped every year, so watch for balloons or signage in shop windows
