About Downtown Helena
Downtown Helena follows Last Chance Gulch, the 1864 gold strike that became the main street, and the pedestrian Walking Mall that runs along it past galleries, shops, restaurants and breweries. Downtown Helena Inc., a business membership group founded in 1964 and based at 330 N Jackson St, works with the Helena Business Improvement District to produce Spring and Fall Art Walks, Kids Fests, the Wedding Stroll, Fashion's Night, Little Tykes Trick or Treat, Breakfast with Santa and the Celebration of Lights. The Vigilante Parade, the Governor's Cup finish and downtown Alive at Five dates all use the Gulch.
The Walking Mall is closed to cars, with Anchor Park and its fire tower at the north end; Women's Park is at 575 Fuller Ave, and the Helena Farmers Market sets up on Fuller Avenue between Neill and Lawrence. Parking is on the streets and in city lots and garages on the blocks around the mall. Most Downtown Helena Inc. events are free. Alive at Five runs Wednesdays from mid-June to mid-August, 5 to 8:30 p.m., rotating among downtown and outlying sites, and the farmers market runs Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from late April through October. Downtown Helena Inc.: 406-447-1535.
