About Blast from the Past Car Show and Drag Races
Blast from the Past is a three-day car show and drag racing weekend organized by the Helena Valley Timing Association, a nonprofit car club. It started in 2006 and had reached its 19th annual running by 2024. The event brings in more than 400 cars from around the country. All proceeds fund scholarships for students pursuing automotive trades education; the club says it has raised over $120,000 for scholarships across the event's history.
The weekend splits across two sites. The car show, a judged 'Show 'n Shine' display, runs Saturday at the Broadwater Grounds on Highway 12 West. The drag races run Sunday at the Rocky Mountain Fire Training Center near Helena Regional Airport, with sheriff's-office and fire-crew support. Friday night kicks the weekend off with a party featuring live music and a flame-thrower contest. Car display entry runs $20; spectator admission is set separately by the club each year.
