About Last Chance Community Pow Wow
The Last Chance Community Pow Wow is a three-day fall pow wow in Helena; the 2026 edition was the 27th. Organizers say the name comes from timing: it was the last chance to pow wow before going to winter camp, and it is held at the end of Native American awareness week. The theme is Honor the Children, and the event is built around teaching Native youth their traditions and sharing them with non-Native neighbors. It opens Friday morning with Demonstration Day, when Helena-area schools bring students to watch and join in the dancing; KTVH reported about 800 students in 2024.
The public pow wow runs Friday through Sunday in the Exhibit Hall at the Lewis & Clark County Fairgrounds. Grand Entry is Friday at 6pm, Saturday at noon and 6pm, and Sunday at noon. There are contest dances and specials for Lil' Miss (6 and under), Jr. Miss (7-12) and Miss (13-17), tiny tots dancing, drum day pay, 50/50 raffles, concessions and more than 30 arts and crafts vendors. Admission is free. Dancers and drum groups travel from across Montana, the northwestern US and Canada.
