About SeptemberFest
SeptemberFest is a free downtown weekend that rolls three events into one: the soap box derby, the Sauter Balloons sculpture fest and United Way of the Lewis & Clark Area's Family Fun Fest. Each year has a theme that the derby cars and balloon sculptures are built around, Dinosaurs Take Over Downtown in 2025 and Gulch Goes Galactic in 2026. Money raised goes to United Way and its partner nonprofits. The 2026 edition, September 11-13, was the sixth.
Friday evening is the derby car show on the Walking Mall, 4 to 8pm in 2026, with live music and food trucks. Saturday starts with the 1K for United Way donut fun run at 11am, then the derby races from about 1 to 4:30pm. Cars start on Cruse Avenue next to the Chamber building, take a hard left onto 6th Avenue and run down the hill to the Walking Mall, with an awards ceremony afterward in front of Ten Mile Creek Brewery. Balloon sculptures stand around downtown all weekend for a scavenger hunt, and on Sunday evening they come down at a balloon popping party.
